Sia Figiel:
Sia Figiel was born in 1967 in Apia, Samoa. The singing and poetry of the area she grew up in would go on to heavily influence her writing in later years. She won the Polynesian Literary Competition in 1994 with her poetry and her 1997 novel “Where We Once Belonged” won the 1997 Best First Book award in the Southeast Asia/South Pacific Region of the Commonwealth. Her second novel, “They Who Do Not Grieve,” was published in 2003, and two of her collections of poetry, “The Girl in the Moon Circle” and “To a Young Artist in Contemplation,” were published in 1996 and 1998 respectively. She moved to the US in 2012 and continued to contribute to smaller poetry magazines since then.
Ken Liu:
Ken Liu was born in 1976 in Lanzhou, Gansu, China. In addition to being an author, he works as a translator, lawyer, and computer programmer. Liu immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 11 years old, living in both California and Connecticut. He writes mostly in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. Liu is the author of The Dandelion Dynasty series (“The Grace of Kings,” “The Wall of Storms,” “The Veiled Throne,” and “Speaking Bones”) as well as a multitude of short stories. In addition to his writing, Liu also translates many works for other authors. Notably, Ken Liu has translated the series “Remembrance of Earth’s Past,” which includes the popular Netflix adaptation and novel, “The Three Body Problem.”
