This weeks rare feature showcases a set of two Carte-de-visites; one of George Washington and the other of Martha Washington and a President Household-Pin-Card broadside with accompanying pins!

Set of two carte-de-visites; one of George Washington and the other of Martha Washington. Both have titles printed on the card and neither have photographer information. No content on verso of either card. Overall very good. The CDV of George Washington has minor chipping, about ¼" long; both CDVs have minor foxing and yellowing. Two handsome portraits of America`s first President and first lady.

Condition: Good. President Household-Pin-Card broadside with accompanying pins. Broadside measures 7 ½" x 23" and is shrink wrapped. Published circa 1901. There are five sections to the broadside; each section is divided by a serrated edge, seemingly the sections could be removed. Broadside has heavy toning, moderate creasing and light soiling; some pins seem to be missing and the serrated edges are fragile and have started to detach. After the bold title the "pin card" reads: "household-pin-card 1225 containing a complete assortment of all necessary pins, thereunder such, suitable for tucking up Ladies-skirts." Following this, the names of the first 26 Presidents of the United States along with the first year they were in office are printed.

A bitter, reclusive old man is forced to leave his solitary existence
in the woods of rural Washington to save his grandkids from an
extremist Christian militia. That doesn’t sound like the setup for a
hilarious book, but “So Far Gone,” the new novel from bestselling
author Jess Walter, manages to blend a lot of laughs into a very
timely narrative. The story centers on Rhys Kinnick, a retired
environmental journalist who has lived off the grid for years since he
punched his conspiracy theorist son-in-law in the face and ruined
Thanksgiving. Kinnick’s madcap journey to save his family features a
road trip through a well-realized depiction of modern America, an
eccentric cast of characters, and a delightful (though quite hungry)
pack of raccoons. The book is filled with witty humor and clever
banter that is punctuated by sudden eruptions of shocking violence. It
is a propulsive page-turner that strikes a good balance between
exhilarating set pieces and thought-provoking themes. I would
recommend it to anyone who likes a dose of politics with their
entertainment.
