March 17 & 18: The 2023 Albuquerque Antiquarian Book Fair

March 17 & 18, 2023

Back of Beyond Books will be exhibiting at the antiquarian book fair in Albuquerque this March. Stop by our booth to say hello and check out our best rare books and ephemera. This will be our first in-person rare book fair of 2023.

The fair will be held at the Sid Cutter Pavilion from 3 pm to 8 pm on Friday, March 17 and from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, March 18.

Here`s Nats review of "Creation Lake` by Rachel Kushner 👇

Rachel Kushner, author of The Mars Room and The Flamethrowers, is one of my favorite writers so I was thrilled to pick up her latest novel when it was released last month. Creation Lake follows an American undercover agent called Sadie Smith (we never learn her real name) as she infiltrates a farming commune in rural France. Sadie’s shadowy contacts want her to find evidence that the anarchic eco-activists sabotaged a construction project, or if no such evidence exists, she is tasked with inciting more subversive activity. As she embeds herself in the commune, Sadie becomes entranced with the group’s mentor, an old man who has abandoned society to live in a cave and return to a primitive way of life. Sadie’s ruthless and cynical self-interest is challenged as she grows ever more entangled in her web of lies and deception.

Creation Lake is a slow burn espionage thriller blended seamlessly with a philosophical novel. Sadie makes for an extremely engaging narrator as the reader is granted access to the conflict behind her seductive facade. Both thought provoking and highly entertaining, this novel brings wry humor, suspense, and musings about human nature in almost equal measure. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in radical left-wing politics or to those looking for a clever twist on a spy novel.
