As the first book in the Hugo Award-winning Wayfarers series, this imaginative science fiction novel does a wonderful job establishing an expansive and thought-provoking universe. However, the best reason to pick up this book is to meet the engaging and memorable cast of characters. The narrative follows the eccentric multi-species crew of the Wayfarer as they tunnel wormholes through space to reach distant planets. Though the characters and setting could hardly be more alien, Chambers keeps the story grounded by addressing real-world political issues and strongly advocating for inclusivity and mulit-culturalism. I'd highly recommend this book, and the whole series, to anyone looking for a refreshing and optimistic space opera.
