In-Store Signing with Gerald Elias

Gerald Elias leads a double life as a critically acclaimed author and world-class musician.

Elias is the author of the award-winning Daniel Jacobus mystery series that takes place in the dark corners of the classical music world. His most recent mysteries, Cloudy With a Chance of Murder and Roundtree Days, his first Western mystery, are set in the great Utah outdoors. His short stories and essays have appeared in journals ranging from Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine to The Strad. In 2021, he was honored to have his article about the life of William Grandstaff added to the African American National Biography, and on September 1 the Moab Museum will open an exhibit on Grandstaff’s life, based on research undertaken by Elias and Nick Sheedy, head researcher for the television program, Finding Your Roots.

A former violinist with the Boston Symphony and associate concertmaster of the Utah Symphony, Elias has performed worldwide and has been the conductor of Salt Lake City’s popular Vivaldi by Candlelight chamber orchestra series since 2004. Elias has been a regular visitor to the Moab Music Festival as both a performer and composer. Two of his works honoring Moab pioneering heroes, “Conversations With Essie” and “The Legend of William Grandstaff,” will be featured on September 4 at the Red Cliffs Lodge along with favorite compositions by the great Aaron Copland.

For every book sold at Back of Beyond Books at his book signing on September 5, Elias will make a donation to the Moab Museum and the Moab Music Festival.

Please consider attending his lecture at the Museum of Moab on Setember 1st at 6:30 pm or catch his concert with the Moab Music Festival at Red Cliffs Lodge on September 4th.
